Is Cyprus' crime rate
low?
According to European Union statistics, Cyprus' crime rate is is only 16% of that in the average
European Country. Graffiti, vandalism and hooliganism are practically
un-heard of.
But contrary to the available statistics, there is actually quite a substantial level of unreported crime in the Republic, which, were it included in the official statistics, would push up the figures substantially. Having said that,these unreported crimes mainly consist of petty thievery, such as your Bulgarian neighbour stealing your lawnmower or garden furniture.
Violent crime, robberies, rapes and murders, on the other hand, are extremely rare on the island, and all-in-all Cyprus is still one of the safest
places to live or visit in the entire European Union.

Are
mortgages available?
Despite the overall downturn in the global economy, and the fact that mortgages are not as easy to obtain now as they once were, Cypriot banks are still offering mortgages for up to 70% of a property's value, and at average interest rates between 2.45% and 2.75% above EURIBOR.
