Kinousa is experiencing some unusual improvements to its telecommunications access

Having paid a visit to Kinousa during the early part of September 2010 while inspecting the region between Polis and Argaka, one of our teams took note of the fact that Cyta, the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, was digging up the main road into the village, preparatory to laying the fibre-optic cables necessary to provide it with broadband Internet access. At first glance there is nothing unusual about this; anyone living in the Republic of Cyprus is quite used to seeing Cyta tear up roads and lay cables.
What makes these road-works so peculiar is that Kinousa is rather too small to warrant the effort and expense of providing it with high-speed Internet access. Indeed, there are villages in the Troodos Mountains north of Limassol, which are three times larger than Kinousa and closer to a main population centre, but have yet to be put on the Cyta schedule for this sort of telecom upgrade.

The village too, is showing signs of major changes being in store. Access is being improved, the village is getting beautified, and even the coffee-shop is being expanded. There can be no doubt that a serious amount of money is being spent on improving this particular locality. But why; what makes Kinousa stand out from a veritable gaggle of similar villages across Cyprus?
The answer immediately becomes obvious once one takes into account the massive earthworks which can be seen from the village’s western slopes. For here, on the site of a disused copper mine, the spectacular Limni Golf Resort is being constructed. With a pair of signature courses by golfing legends Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, this is easily the most eagerly anticipated development of its kind in Cyprus.

"Kinousa village enjoys unrivalled panoramic views of the Gary Player signature course at Limni Golf Resort."
It is for this reason, rather than its picturesque setting or traditional charm, that the village is attracting the attentions of a growing number of golfing aficionados and overseas real estate investors. However, Kinousa is not, nor will it ever be, a mainstream property buying destination, not only due to its secluded hillside location, but also the local determination to retain its traditional atmosphere.
Despite its intimate proximity to Limni, there are no plans afoot for the construction of unsightly apartment complexes or tightly squeezed housing developments. Instead, Kinousa is home to a small selection of generously proportioned building plots overlooking Gary Player’s signature Links; it is set to become a highly exclusive little golfing community in its own right.
If you are contemplating a property investment in the Limni region, you could do a lot worse than finding out what’s available around Kinousa village.
