Cyprus
Property - The Winter Getaway
As the autumn chill reminds
us all of another impending winter, most of us
will be unpacking our woollies and generally readying
ourselves for an extended cold stretch until spring
time.
There are however those amongst us who are packing their swimming costumes and
beachwear in preparation for heading off to homes on the fabulous island of Cyprus.
Recent surveys by the
Sainsbury’s bank reveal that well over a
hundred thousand Brits are making plans to move
abroad within the coming year.
A substantial number of these prospective buyers
have their sights firmly set on a Cyprus property,
drawn by prices which are still substantially
lower than Spain and living standards which rival
most north European countries.
In fact, Cyprus is now the fourth most popular
destination for overseas property buyers behind
Spain, France and the United States.
One expert on the Cypriot
property market was recently quoted as follows:
“
Without doubt the market on the island has changed
in recent years. Cyprus property is now seen as
an increasingly favourable proposition for those
seeking retirement in the sun. Our little corner
of the world boasts well over three hundred days
of sunshine each year, which makes a big difference,
as people tend to feel better in a sunny climate.”
Figures show that almost
fifty percent of prospective buyers coming to
Cyprus are now looking for a permanent place to
retire.
The remaining fifty odd percent are almost equally
split between those seeking a prime holiday home
and those simply looking for a high yield investment.
Many agents and developers feel that the recent
dip experienced by the Spanish real estate market
has fuelled an increase in demand for Cyprus property.
Furthermore,
it’s not just the British who are
after a prime slice of Cypriot real estate; increasing
numbers of Dutch and Belgian buyers are also flocking
to the island. |
Cyprus
Property - A safe investment
These nationalities, which were previously somewhat
cautious in their approach, now feel Cyprus to be
a safe bet due to its membership of the European
Union.
It is this EU membership
which brings with it many benefits for foreign visitors,
not least of which being the fact that EU citizens
are guaranteed free medical care under the EHIC
scheme
Golf
in Cyprus is currently represented
by four courses which
are attracting an increasing amount of attention
from the international golfing community, the finest
of which are Aphrodite Hills and the Secret
Valley Golf Course and Country Club, although more courses
will be constructed in the Republic during the
next three to five years.
Water sports of all descriptions are also widely
available; scuba diving in the clear waters of the
Mediterranean Sea being a particular favourite with
many visitors.
One couple who have recently
purchased a home near Paphos put it this way:
“
It was a combination of things which brought us
to the island. We were simply amazed at how far
our budget would go here and how beautiful the countryside
and views are. Our summer months are spent in the
Thames Valley near Oxford, but this time of year,
when the winter chills first set in, we come to
Cyprus and it’s fantastic.”
As a former Crown Colony,
Cyprus is an easy destination for people looking
to relocate. The vast majority of Greek Cypriots
under the age of forty speak English to a very high
standard and many of the laws on the island find
their origins in the British legal system.
Those who purchase a Cyprus property adapt quickly
to the leisurely lifestyle on the island and enjoy
their time in this Mediterranean beauty spot immensely.
All in all, Cyprus Property is well worth a closer look. |
