Information about Cyprus' Golf Courses

In 2006, the Republic's government announced a major new initiative to improve the leisure infrastructure of Cyprus. Golf courses and resorts would be built across the island in an effort to attract golfers.

Now, almost four years later, the first of the fourteen new golf courses is approaching completion, while most of the others are still in the planning stages.

Larnaca Golf Course and Country Club

The forthcoming Larnaca Golf Course & Country Club at Tersefanou village is one of the most eagerly anticipated golfing resorts in Cyprus. Aside from a superb 18 hole championship golf course, the resort will feature a host of associated facilities including driving ranges, golf academy with resident pro, practice holes and pro-shop.

Including bars, lounges, a restaurant, library, a children’s room and more, the clubhouse is set to make a stunning centre-piece for this amazing resort. In addition to outstanding golfing facilities, a first rate fitness centre and health spa, and a spacious retail village will complement the resort's many other leisure facilities perfectly.

Elea Golf Resort

Created by Faldo Design, the Elea Golf Resort is the first of Cyprus' new golf courses to reach completion. Situated in the coastal hills just a couple of miles outside Paphos, Elea Golf Resort boasts, in Nick Faldo’s own words “thoughtful, rather than big-hitting golf”, by taking full advantage of the many dramatic rock formations and Carob tree goves which are part of the local landscape.

The resort will feature a driving range, practice greens, pro-shop, and a state-of-the-art clubhouse, and will also include a luxurious fitness centre and health spa, a five-star hotel with adjacent retail village. What’s more, while many of Cyprus’ golf courses are still in the proposal stages, Agia Marinouda has been under construction since 2007, and is scheduled for completion in late 2010.

Tsada/Minthis Hills

Tsada Golf Course , founded in 1994 on the hills of Tsada is situated on the outskirts of Pafos at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level, ensuring cool breezes in the summer months. Set in the grounds of a 12th century monastery in a gentle valley created by Donald Steel, it plays to a par 72 and measures 6,060 metres.

The club also offers an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court. The clubhouse includes a bar, restaurant, shop with golf accessories and a golf academy with driving range, putting green, changing rooms and showers. Video coaching is available for improving your technique.

Secret Valley Golf Club

Secret Valley Golf and Country Club; has been viewed as the crowning glory when it comes to golf on the island. It is located 18km east of Pafos, near Petra tou Romiou, the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, patron goddess of Cyprus. Golf courses boasting settings as scenically beautiful as this are indeed rare, since Secret Valley is set in a picturesque valley among landscaped gardens and breathtaking natural rock formations.

The course plays to a par 72 and measures 6,120 metres. Its clubhouse, designed in comfortable country style, has a delightful veranda overlooking the putting greens. For relaxation, you'll find a bar, restaurant, shop with golf accessories and a golf academy with driving range, putting green and video coaching for improved technique.

Aphrodite Hills Golf Resort

Aphrodite Hills Golf Club is easily accessible, located just 20km east of Pafos only 2 minutes off the Pafos-Limassol motorway. Spectacularly situated on 2 plateaux at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level with marvelous Mediterranean Sea views, the 6,269 metre course designed by Cabell B. Robinson, plays to par 71/70. It offers a double-ended 350 metre practice range, 4 target greens with bunkers, short game practice facilities and 3 academy holes.

There are 2 resident professional golf instructors, an inviting clubhouse with bar and restaurant facilities, terraces overlooking the 18th green and a Pro-shop offering the latest golf apparel and equipment. Many consider Aphrodite Hills residential complex to be the very pinnacle of golf properties in Cyprus. There are, however, other contenders for this honour.

Vikla Golf Club

While most of Cyprus' golf courses require handicap certificates for play, Vikla Golf Course and Country Club, the only course in the Limassol area, has no such rule. The club also offers full, as well as daily memberships. Nestled near the Village of Vikla and only 20kms drive from Limassol you will find the Vikla Golf and Country Club, the project was started in 1992 by Robin Houry. With it's spectacular mountain views along with it's welcoming, friendly and informal atmosphere it is an ideal place to play golf or simply relax.
