Like Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley in the island’s west, the much debated Larnaca golf course is located next to a small farming settlement close to both the Larnaca district's main town, and its international airport. Prior to the course’s planning application being filed, Tersefanou was something of a no-mark farming village, well of Cyprus’ beaten track.
But things have changed in a short time
Now, less than four years later, it is a sizable little community with an expanding halo of villas and apartment complexes, which were constructed in anticipation of the planned golfing resort.
The village itself is actually located just south-west of the course, and as one leaves behind Tersefanou’s last few houses and apartments on the small road which leads to the Larnaca golf course’s location, one is taken by the many fields which cover the area’s gently rolling hills. On a hilltop, about five hundred yards from Tersefanou’s perimeter, and roughly two hundred yards to the road’s left stands an ancient little chapel, hardly noticeable among the dun-coloured landscape.

This is where the resort starts
It is this inconspicuous structure which marks the golf resort’s south-western edge.
We’ve marked the chapel’s location on the resort’s master-plan to give you an idea of how everything is laid out. Bear in mind that the road which currently runs past the chapel will no longer exist once the golf course and its associated villa complex have been constructed. Instead, a road about three hundred yards to the east will be expanded to provide a scenic entry into the country club. |
Larnaca golf course and country club is distinguished by six-star excellence
On paper at least, the resort itself is a truly lavish affair, with an 18-hole championship course created by the Professional Golfers’ Association, and maintained by its own management company. As for the country club’s on-site facilities, these are designed and constructed by a local conglomerate working in close association with the PGA. With a six-star hotel, a sumptuous fitness and health centre, a retail village, numerous restaurants, and a state-of-the-art, multi-million Euro clubhouse, the Larnaca golf course and country club would be a verdant oasis of grass and trees, set among the starkly beautiful local hillsides.
Across the way from the opulent clubhouse, the plans specify a massive driving range, and an assortment of practice greens, complete with sand-traps, while only a short stroll down the main street would be the resort’s retail village with its countless luxurious boutiques. Let your fingers stroll a few yards further south along the Larnaca Golf Resport's master plan, and you reach one of the site’s restaurants (provisionally known as the sunset restaurant), which is located next to the chapel which marks the entrance to the complex. This is also the location of a helipad, which is of course an essential component of any truly luxurious golfing resort.
If completed, the Larnaca golf course will doubtlessly become the jewel in the crown of leisure resorts in the east of Cyprus. However, for the time being at least, there are still more than a few doubts hanging over the venue's future.
