Apartments in Ayia Napa, the bustling resort on the east coast

Once a small fishing village with only a Venetian Monastery to boast of, Ayia Napa lies 40 km to the east of Larnaca, and only 40 minutes to Larnaca international airport.

Apartments in Ayia Napa Resort

It has become a very popular summer resort since 1970, gaining a reputation for unruly, outlandish behaviour. However, Ayia Napa has substantially cleaned up its image, due to the recent election of the current Mayoress. This has led to a surge of enquiries from people looking for apartments in Ayia Napa to purchase.

A Cyprus chronographer (Leontios Mahaeras) mentions Ayia Napa for the first time during the period of looting by the Venetians in 1366 A.D. He also mentions in 1373, the shipwreck of 5 Venetian ships laden with booty stolen from Cyprus. The 16th Century is the next time Ayia Napa is mentioned, in Venetian documents and maps. Most of the history has been established from archaeological findings and local tradition as there is insufficient historical evidence to be found.

“The Palaces” between Cape Greco and Limnara Beach is one of the most intriguing landmarks of Ayia Napa. It is only reachable via the sea and formed on the rocks, giving the impression of being fine works of architecture.

The natural surroundings of the Agia Napa area and particularly its flora are equally interesting to the scientist as well as the amateur observer, being the area where the botanical elements of the neighbouring African, European and Asian continents gather to create the special flora of Cyprus. The famous Pancratium maritimum, or Sand Lily has the greatest appeal than many of the wild flowers of the Agia Napa area. With its large bulbs-up to 25cm in diameter deeply buried in the coastal sands of the area on which the plant grows, the lovely Sand Lily also known as the Famagusta Lily, flowers during August and September. Even in the evening its attractive funnel-shaped snow-white flower is noticeable by its unmistakable sweet smell. The Sand Lily is now an integral feature of the Agia Napa landscape, being well appreciated and respected.

The cost of living in Cyprus

Whilst any reference to the cost of living in foreign countries must of course be put into perspective where local wages, taxes and other economic factors are concerned, the fact is that the cost of living in Cyprus is rather lower when compared with most North European countries.
Not only that, the Republic can also boast the second most benevolent tax climate in the European Union.
