The Secret Valley Golf and Country Club near Kouklia Village
As the name implies, the Secret Valley Golf and Country Club is set in a small valley running through the coastal hills near Aphrodite’s Rock on Cyprus’ west coast.
Secret Valley Golf and Country Club
Opened back in 1996, Secret Valley was the second 18-hole grass course to be constructed on the island and rapidly became the local player’s favourite (even more so than the neighbouring Aphrodite Hills).
Whilst the existing course provides a superb playing experience and could successfully carry on its existence without any major changes, a major extension and remodelling programme is nevertheless underway. |

Starting with the clubhouse, which has already undergone a major remodelling at a cost well in excess of one million Cyprus pounds, the Secret Valley Golf and Country Club is set to be become an international standard golfing resort rivalling the likes of La Manga in Spain or Vale dos Lobos in Portugal.
Although this is a bold claim, and one already made unsuccessfully by a number of proposed Mediterranean golf resorts, this particular project not only has practically unlimited financial backing, but also the support of both the Cypriot government, who are determined to put the Republic onto the international golfing map, and the PGA, who are currently in the process of issuing the second licence needed for the venue to join the European Tour.
So what exactly makes the Secret Valley Golf and Country Club stand out from the many other resorts springing up around the Mediterranean?
To begin with, there is the resort’s fabulous location in the coastal hills between the town of Pissouri and the village of Kouklia, which afford some truly spectacular views of the sea and the mountains further inland.
But of course, an outstanding view alone is not enough to make the difference between this venues and the many other contenders on the Mediterranean golf circuit. This is why the Secret Valley Golf and Country Club’s remodelling is being carried out in a thoughtful and unhurried fashion.
With the planning stages now all but complete, what will eventually emerge at this resort is nothing short of utterly spectacular.
Rather than confine itself to the, albeit scenic valley, a new championship standard golf course is to be constructed in the hills above the original course. Already earmarked for the PGA’s European Tour, its location has been specifically chosen to provide players with the finest possible views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Troodos Mountains in the island’s interior.
In addition the original course will be completely remodelled and another 18-hole course is to be constructed alongside it. A third par-3 course and a 9-hole pitch and putt course will round off the resort’s golfing venues alongside new driving ranges, practice greens and a golf academy with pro-shop and resident professionals.
It’s not just about golf at the Secret Valley Golf and Country Club though. What makes this resort truly spectacular are the many other amenities to be constructed alongside its golfing facilities.
Secret Valley's coastal stretches will be the home to a sports centre of truly magnificent proportions, including football and tennis academies. Only a few yards inland, nestled into the coastal hills a fully fledged retail complex is set to provide visitors and residents with goods of every description, whereas accommodation is provided by the neighbouring five star hotel set into a location which affords some truly majestic views of the sea.
The resort’s crowning glory however, is the 500 metre long manmade beach to be constructed along its coastal front. Complemented by a leisure complex including bars, tavernas, restaurants and every conceivable water sports facility from diving to wind surfing, this stretch of coast will be a playground for residents and visitors alike.
The Republic of Cyprus is of course home to a number of golf courses, both existing and in the planning stages; there is however nothing on the island, or indeed anywhere in the region, which can even begin to rival the scope and grandeur of the Secret Valley Golf and Country Club once complete.
