Properties in Paphos - A firm favourite with homebuyers
Properties in Paphos have long held a place in the hearts of many British expatriates and homebuyers. But what makes homes in this part of the island so popular and keeps them in continuing demand?
Properties in Paphos hold something for everyone
For starters, there is the fact that Paphos province covers a wide area from the Akamas Peninsula National Park in the north-west of the island to the Troodos Mountains in its centre and almost down to Limassol in along the south coast.
A region of scenic beauty, rich history, fine beaches and many leisure activities, including three golf courses, the province truly holds an attraction for all tastes. Speaking of leisure activities, it may be worth mentioning at this stage that Cyprus is one of the few places on Earth where you can downhill ski and then swim in the Sea within just an hour. |

Geographically speaking, properties in Paphos fall into two general locations.
Ktima, the town’s main residential district, is located on the sea-terrace and affords some truly phenomenal views of the Mediterranean Sea whereas Kato Pafos (Lower Paphos) is set by the sea and holds the majority of the town’s entertainment and leisure facilities, as well as a number of historical monuments including the famous Paphos Mosaics.
If Paphos itself does not appeal to your taste, then the many villages dotting the hillsides above the town may well have something to tempt you. From Peyia, overlooking the beautiful Coral Bay area, just to the north of Paphos, to Kouklia, with its two neighbouring golf courses at Secret Valley and Aphrodite Hills, about a 15 minute drive along the coast south of Paphos, the district boasts a myriad of communities, ranging from the traditionally scenic, like Tala and Konia, to modern leisure playgrounds such as Geroskipou and Coral Bay.
Of course, no article about properties in Paphos and the surrounding area would be complete without making mention of the region’s three 18-hole golf courses.
Opened back in 1994 and newly remodelled in time for the 2007 season, Tsada Golf Course on the outskirts of Tsada village, only a ten minute drive north of Paphos, holds the distinction of being the island’s first all-grass 18-hole golf course. Set over 500 metres above sea level, its hillside location gives Tsada an edge over the region’s other two courses during the long summer months, since cooling breezes ensure a pleasant playing experience even on the hottest days.
Further south, near the village of Kouklia, can be found the province’s two other golf courses; Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley. Set along the coast, right next to each other, Aphrodite Hills is a challenging course spanning the coastal hills and bifurcated by a ravine which accounts for many a lost ball, whereas Secret Valley, as its name implies, is located in a secluded little valley running through the hills and down towards the sea.
Whilst Aphrodite Hills is currently considered to be the finest golf course on the island, the forthcoming expansion of the Secret Valley resort should ensure its place amongst the world’s great golfing developments.
