The
Village of Kouklia
Kouklia is in quite an important
archaeological region which has been decreed as being
one of the most important Cypriot ancient kingdoms.
Its modern name of Kou(vou)klia was shortened from the name of Kouvikoularios
meaning ‘the ownership of a property of a Byzantine officer’.
In the north-east lies part of the forest of "Oriti", whilst to the
south-east lies the forest of "Randi", both being within its administrative
boundaries, whilst
It is surrounded by fertile lands abounding in grapevines
(wine-making and table grape varieties), all sorts
of citrus fruits, kiwis, avocados, bananas, apricot,
olives, locust beans, legumes, peanuts, and a very
large variety of assorted vegetables, being as well
an area for cattle farming.
Kouklia is a village where the locals are especially
known for their piety and respect for religion. The
village has palm trees planted in the main-street
entrance of the village adding a special beauty. |
Secret
Valley Golf & Country Club
The Secret Valley Golf and Country Club is located in the
coastal hills adjacent to Kouklia.
Opened in 1996,
this is the second grass course in Cyprus and has become a firm favourite
with the local golfing crowd.
Recently, Secret Valley was earmarked for what is surely one of
the most ambitious and stunning projects of its kind
anywhere in the Mediterranean.
Over the coming few years, the Secret Valley Golf and Country Club
is undergoing a transformation from mere course to
fully fledged golf resort.
Expansions to the resort will include the construction of a further
two golf courses, a nine-hole pitch and putt, golf academy,
tennis courts, football academy, five star hotel, retail
village, health spa, 500 metres of artificial beaches
with adjacent leisure centre and much more besides.
