Oroklini village is set just eight miles from Larnaca's airport
The village itself is an interesting mix of old and new, with Oroklini’s traditionally styled village core now surrounded by an ever-increasing number of apartment blocks and villas, due to the little community’s continuing popularity with British expatriates. In fact, nowadays the village is jokingly referred to as ‘Little Britain’ by local expatriates, largely because of the fact that the number of British residents is now almost equal to the number of Cypriots living in Oroklini village. Given the ever-growing influx of professionals and retirees from the United Kingdom, one might expect Oroklini to slowly transform into the sort of concrete-jungle tourist-trap which, for instance, Torrevieja in Spain has become, yet despite the growing numbers of Brits living in Oroklini and the surrounding area, this charming little community has retained its traditional Cypriot atmosphere.
Taking the Dhekeleia road leisure zone’s many tourist facilities aside for a moment, Oroklini village itself boasts quite a few excellent bars and restaurants right in its centre. If a quiet drink is your pleasure, you will always find a warm welcome at Roman’s Bar and Miltos’ along the main road through the village, whilst if you’re looking for a meze or an outstanding traditional Cypriot meal, you would do well to take a look at the Corfu Tavern, where Andreas has an extremely high standard for his delicious meals, or the Grada Restaurant which, although a little more pricey, boasts a reputation as one of the finest restaurants in the Larnaca region.
As one might expect, the village’s infrastructure has also grown along with the number of its residents, who are now served by two little supermarkets, a small shopping mall, hardware store and an array of other services such as hairdressers, pharmacies, banks and even a betting shop.
